ID3 Tag Editor is a small free tool for editing the metadata tags of MP3 audio files. This useful application supports both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags (up to version v2.4). Thus, you can easily add or edit the name of the artist, the title, the album, or the year a track was published. Besides, you can also embed an image of the cover into each track, and add your own comments. ID3 tags are used by most of the best-known media players to show you specific information about the track you are listening to, and also to help you keep your music organized.
As not all media players support the latest version of ID3 tags, this tool offers you the possibility of selecting the version that better fits your player (for both the ID3v1 and ID3v2 standards). Both standards offer you roughly the same fields, though ID3v2 tags support UTF-8 and can handle up to 256 MB of data, while ID3v1 support a maximum of 128 bytes per track (this is why you can only add images when using v2 tags).
Though not all possible metadata is supported by this tool, the main fields are there, including a convenient pull-down menu to help you select the genre of the track. One caveat, though: even though it is stated on the product’s website that this tool is equally useful for FLAC, APE, OGG, or SHN files, it will only open MP3 audio files.
